Firenze

Florence, I was told by many, is a city to fall in love with. They were right. The entire city is seething with art; you can feel Michaelangelo's genius filling up your lungs with every breath you take. With every step, around every corner, there is a masterpiece awaiting your twinkling eyes. Take the Duomo for example. It looks as if it is a giant canvas set against the Florence sky. It's so beautiful it doesn't even look real. The three Davids - including Michaelangelo's original - are quite utterly perfect. Then there are the galleries of the Uffizzi, and the gorgeous Ponte Vecchio - so beautiful that even the Germans decided to spare it during the second world war. They are sights words can do no justice to, so here are a few pictures for you to enjoy instead:

Mi prima Katia me dijo varias veces que Florencia es como una maquetita, que todo en ella es perfecto. No les mentiré, está mucho más enamorada ella de esa ciudad que yo (y con buena razón) pero concuerdo con Katia, Florencia es absolutamente hermosa. El Duomo (arriba) no parece real. Parece que estás viendo un dibujo gigante plasmado con detalles minuciosamente pintados en un lienzo enorme que de alguna manera lograron erigir en medio de una pequeña ciudad. Es como una ilusión óptica. Claro que el resto de la ciudad también es hermosa y el arte, ni se diga. He aquí la prueba:

Two of the things I most enjoyed while in Firenze were the San Lorenzo market, where I bought my siblings two gorgeous leather-bound journals and the gelato festival which, lucky for me, was being held the days I was in town. I ate more gelato than any other Italian specialty. My favorite flavors? Pistacchio and nocciola (hazelnut). 

On my last day in Florence, I had the pleasure of meeting my cousin's husband's good friend, Samuel, a very charming Italian boy who showed me the sights and told me the stories I would have otherwise missed. Getting to see Firenze with a native of the city made my trip so much more memorable; it made me feel like I was finally getting a real taste of Italy. Grazie mille Katia, Alfonso e Samuel!

There were a couple of things I didn't get to see while in Firenze - like the inside of the Duomo or several exhibits at the Uffizzi that were undergoing restoration - but it doesn't matter. I'm absolutely certain I'll be returning to Firenze very soon. 

De lo que más disfruté en Firenze destacan el mercado de San Lorenzo dónde compré unos cuadernos de piel súper lindos para mis hermanos y en las fechas que estuve ahí, el festival del gelato. Lo que más comí en Italia fue sin duda gelato (helado). ¡Todos los que probé estaban deliciosos! 

El último día que estuve en Firenze tuve el placer de conocer a un amigo del esposo de mi prima, Samuel, un chico Fiorentino. Me dio un tour de la ciudad y me mostró lugares y contó historias que yo no hubiera descubierto sola. Un italiano súper lindo que hizo que mi experiencia se sintiera un poco más auténtica. Grazie mille Katia, Alfonso e Samuel! 

Me faltó ver un par de cosas en Firenze, pero no hay problema, ya que estoy segura que muy pronto volveré.
